Purposes and Responsibilities

Consistent with the religious purposes of the Fellowship:

We unite, in the discipline of truth and in the spirit of universal goodwill, to strengthen our convictions in the value and need for liberal religion, and through the strength of unity, to give expression to these convictions.

We shall be a Welcoming Congregation, declaring and affirming our special responsibility to promote the full participation of persons in all our activities and in the full range of human endeavor without regard to race, color, sex, disability, affectional or sexual orientation, age or national origin, and without requiring adherence to any particular interpretation of religion or to any particular religious belief or creed.

We strive to help our Members and Friends and their families grow in spiritual awareness and moral understanding, to provide regular opportunities for religious celebration, community, mutual support, learning and free inquiry, and to promote human rights and concern for the natural environment.

Minister

Reverend Robert Francis Murphy is our congregation's full-time minister. Like many of the people who live on Cape Cod, Bob is originally from somewhere else. He was raised in California and in Rhode Island. "Part of my family was Roman Catholic and part was Protestant," notes Bob. "I love both sides of my family. However, the decision to become a Unitarian Universalist was my own decision and it was one of the best decisions that I ever made!"

Bob received his M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School and he spent several years in ministry in North Carolina. He is active in human rights work and environmental justice work in Massachusetts. Bob is married to Lyn Dalzell, who is a physician's assistant with a background in social work. They live in the village of Cataumet in a Cape Cod house with two horseshoes over the front door. The UU design stands for "Unitarian Universalist."

Reverend Murphy's scheduled office hours at our meetinghouse are on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 pm. Please call for an appointment. Hospital visits and evening visits can be scheduled as needed.

Special Ceremonies

Religious ceremonies for couples and families are performed after consultation with the minister. Cape Cod is very popular as a location for weddings, child dedications, and family reunions. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth can provide assistance with these religious events. Church membership is not required. Our fellowship is a welcoming congregation that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families. If you need help in planning a memorial service, wedding, or child dedication in the Cape Cod area, please contact our minister (see contact information below).

Weddings, memorial services, and child dedications are scheduled for a variety of places on Cape Cod. If you would like to rent our meetinghouse for a special event, please contact our meetinghouse office. Ask for a copy of our current rental rates and building use policies.

From Off Cape: From Route 3 South, follow Rte 3 across the Sagamore Bridge onto the rotary. Stay in the right lane and take the first exit off the rotary onto Route 6 West. Follow Route 6 several miles through the Bourne Bridge Rotary. From Route 495 East: Route 495 becomes Route 25 a few miles before the Bourne Bridge. Follow this route across the Bourne Bridge and onto the rotary. At the Bourne Bridge rotary, stay in the right lane and take the exit to MA Route 28 South. Follow Route 28S for several miles. Exit onto MA Route 151, turning right at the end of the off ramp and heading east. Proceed about 3 miles and make a right-hand turn onto Sandwich Road (at the traffic light). Proceed 1.5 miles south toward Teaticket Village. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located on the right at 840 Sandwich Road. Drive into the Fellowship's parking area, where traffic flow is counter clockwise.

From the Outer Cape: Follow Route 28 North from Hyannis to Mashpee. At the Mashpee/New Seabury Rotary, turn right onto Route 151 West. Proceed 3.3 miles west, turning left onto Sandwich Road at the traffic light. Proceed 1.5 miles south toward Teaticket Village. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located on the right at 840 Sandwich Road. Drive into the Fellowship's parking area, where traffic flow is counter clockwise.
