Celtic Diversity Dinner and Entertainment, March 8, 2008
The Celtic Diversity Dinner is an annual community event for all ages. Now in its eighth year, this evening of feasting and merrymaking welcomes people of all races, faith traditions, ethnic backgrounds, and affectional and sexual orientations. Each year the dinner raises money for local human rights organizations. The event is co-sponsored by Falmouth's "No Place for Hate" organization and our congregation's Social Action/Welcoming Committees.
Entertainment will be provided by Clayton March and Friends, the Gay Mens Chorus, and pianist Celia Gayer. Clayton March is a Celtic fiddler who performs at various venues throughout Cape Cod. He will be joined on guitar by Dimitrius Becrelis, a member of Tripping Lily, and by fiddler Grant Mallet. Additional entertainment includes the Cape Cod Gay Men's Chorus and a rollicking sing-a-long with Celia Gayer on piano.

The dinner will consist of corned beef and cabbage as well as a vegan main dish, Irish soda bread, salad, beveridges, and finger food desserts. This year's proceeds will go to the Barnstable County Human Rights Comission and to CIGSYA (Cape and Islands Gay & Straight Youth Alliance) House in Hyannis. Prices will be $15 adults, $5 children, maximum $30 per family. All tickets sold at the door.
Awards will be given to Pamela O'Brien from Gay Pride and to Jackie Fields, director of the Barnstable County Human Rights Commission, for their work on behalf of human rights.
Universalists and Unitarians have long been involved in the religious and cultural life of Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Cities like Edinburgh and Belfast have active congregations that have been in existence since the 1700s. The Celtic cultures are pluralistic, and rapidly changing in this new century, but the month of March is still important for several reasons. Saint Piran, who is Cornwall's patron saint, is remembered on March 5th, and saints David and Patrick are also honored in March.
