Religious Education
Mission Statement
Our program provides a liberal education which explores diverse religious beliefs, instills social and personal responsibility, encourages respect and reverence for all life, and creates a basis for life-long religious growth and learning. We value our children as part of a loving community, through worship, ritual, and celebration, in an environment where children feel safe, respected, and accepted. We offer the tools for a journey toward discovery of personal, meaningful religious beliefs and values.
Current News
Sunday School News
May 11 is Religious Education
Sunday. Children will be
in the service for the first part and then proceed to
their classrooms.
The focus on all classes is to celebrate Religious
Education. If the
weather cooperates, after the service, we'll be
dancing around the May
Pole.
What if we lived in a world in which nobody forgave? During children´s chapel on May 25 we´ll explore this concept. Please note that children´s chapel will be on hiatus until August when the director of religious education gets back from professional development as well as vacation time. Don´t worry- RE will continue with the Little Red School House craft projects for the months of June and July. Details will be in the June newsletter.
We need items for craft projects for the months of June and July! Among the many items needed are paper towel tubes, toilet paper tubes, glue sticks, party streamers (especially red, white and blue), Quaker Oats Containers, shoe boxes, card stock, white paper plates (both large and small) and cardboard or heavy oat tag squares. Thank you for your help!
Youth Group News

The fundraiser they are currently making available is a magazine fundraiser. It is all online at www.magfundraiser.com/UUFFYouthGroup. Supporters can go to the site amd renew old subscriptions or buy new ones from a variety of magazines.
A Message from the Director of Religious Education
Lisa Willow Dunne
Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth Religious Education Program. The children and youth of this church are valued. We try to weave them into the fabric of the congregation here at UUFF in many ways. With the exception of the last Sunday of every month, each Sunday the children are invited to attend the first part of the morning worship service beginning at 9:30 with the entire congregation.
The last Sunday of the month is Children's Chapel. Children gather in the East Wing for their own worship time including an age appropriate sermon and other related rituals and celebrations.
We center our educational programs on the pillar or subject areas that we feel that are essential to Unitarian Universalism. Each year or half a year, we explore one of the pillars. They are:
- Our Unitarian Universalist Identity
- World Religions
- Our Judeo-Christian Heritage
- Earth-Centered Traditions and Ecology

Programs
Offered
Nursery: Childcare is available during Sunday service for
babies and toddlers.
Preschool/Kindergarten: "Chalice Children", a curriculum for ages 4 and 5, is designed to help young children learn about their church. The curriculum is based on the belief that preschool and kindergarten children gain a sense of belonging to their religious community and the Unitarian Universalist faith when they have a sense of concrete experiences with its people and places.
Grades 1-6:
The older children are divided into grades 1-3 and grades
4-6. World Religions is the theme for the entire year: "Under the Sky, All People Are One Family.¨ Both groups will explore holidays and holy days from around the world. Holidays are a natural way for children to explore religious traditions. From these traditions, our children get a sense of belief, hope, reverence and respect for other cultures and beliefs. We will include religious traditions from Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Muslim and Judaism. Some of the cultures we will explore will be African, Chinese, Native American, South American and Japanese.
Youth: The Fellowship has a youth group for grades 7 and up. The Youth develop their own curriculum according to the needs and interests of the group, with the facilitation of two youth advisors.
Our Whole Lives: The Fellowship is pleased to once again offer the Our Whole Lives (OWL) program, a year long comprehensive sexuality education course for grades 7-9. The goals for the program are to provide accurate information about human sexuality, to provide an opportunity for young people to understand and articulate their sexual attitudes, to help young people develop interpersonal skills, including communication, assertiveness and peer refusal skills, and to help young people exercise responsibility regarding sexual relationships. Two trained leaders will teach this class.

Helping Hands
How can you help? We welcome your assistance in the classroom, helping with clean-up after a lesson, planning a party, organizing supply closets, providing child care, reviewing curricula, doing a craft project on Sunday mornings during the summer months, working with the youth group, donating supplies, becoming a mentor….the list goes on and on!

Bringing an ill child to Sunday school may not only add to your child’s discomfort but also may threaten the health of others. We are dedicated to keeping everyone as healthy as possible. Please keep your child home if she/he has a fever, diarrhea, croupy or severe cough, conjunctivitis, an unusual rash, sore throat, is vomiting, or has severe itching of the scalp or a profuse discharge from the nose.

UUFF Religious
Education Calendar for Children and Youth 2007 – 2008
Our Religious Education Program begins most Sundays at 9:30 a.m. with
the children attending the first 10 minutes of the Service; they then
process back to their classrooms for RE until 10:40, a few minutes
after the regular service ends. On the third Sunday of every
month the children will begin RE with a child-centered Childrens'
Chaple in the East Wing (we'll have signs reminding you!).
We encourage active and regular participation
in our RE program! There is no fee
for
participating. Families are expected to support the
program
financially through their pledges to the church, volunteering in the
classroom,
and participating in RE sponsored events. We rarely cancel Sunday
school
due to inclement weather. UUFF has a phone tree to inform everyone when
there
is a cancellation. This is just one of many reasons to have your child
registered.
Child care for ages infant through 7 is available throughout the summer
and
during RE vacations.
