Sunday Sermon Summaries
Sunday Services begin at 9:30 a.m.
MARCH 30: "Theodore Parker
Speaks To His Time and to Ours"
Due to illness, Rev. Eugene Pickett will not be in our pulpit on March 30. Instead, we welcome Rev. Richard Fewkes.
Rev. Richard Fewkes, in period costume, will speak
from our pulpit, as Theodore Parker, the great 19th
Century pro-feminist, abolitionist and
Transcendentalist Unitarian preacher. He will speak
about his controversial views from his own time and
how closely they fit in with today's world.
Dick Fewkes is Minister Emeritus of the First Parish
in Norwell, Mass. He and his wife Elinor are
residents of West Dennis on Cape Cod and are members
of the UU Meeting House in Chatham. They are
grandparents to eight grandchildren.
All services in April are lay led. Rev. Murphy is on sabbatical.
April 6: "Where Charity and Love Prevail", with choir
Peter Kirwin, Director of Falmouth Human Services, will lead this morning's service.
He will weave teachings from the Old Testament with the New Testament and his own
Buddhist reflections in providing a faith basis for social justice.
April 13: "On the Road to Religion"
A recent survey by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life found that half of
American adults have switched religious affiliation during their lifetime. Tom Kirkman, a
long time UUFF member, will follow this trend by taking us on a religious road trip from
America's first drive-in church in Orlando to St. John Coltrane Church in San Francisco to
the First Church of Elvis Impersonators in Memphis to help us find our way home..
April 20: "Ancient and Mid-East Goddesses", with choir
Today’s speaker, Heather Gheron-Rice, who has attended UUFF in the past and is now
a Master of Divinity student, has long been interested in paganism. In prehistory, before
the patriarchal gods were the matriarchal goddesses. Some survived into historic times in
ways that may surprise you.
April 27: "Alternative Medicine"
Eric Ericson, long time UUFF member, will present various non-medical personnel
speaking in a seminar setting. A Holistic Counselor, a gentleman speaking out on
dangers of fast foods and providing information on “smart diets” and food shopping,
hopefully a chiropractor and a person who knows healing herbs as an alternative to
drugs. A Q and A session will follow. Not your usual service but very informative.
