Supermarket Gift Certificate Program

The Supermarket Gift Certificate Program is the foundation of our UUFF fundraising to benefit local charities. Anyone can help us fulfill our mission by participating in the program; you don’t have to be a member of UUFF.  Buying groceries with a gift certificate costs nothing and is as easy as using a debit card!

Why buy supermarket gift certificates?

  • Because 5% of what you spend at your supermarket will be given to local charities – and it will not cost you anything.
  • That’s what Supermarket Gift Certificates do.
  • The money adds up. Say you spend $150 a week at a local supermarket. That’s $7,800 a year. Five percent of $7,800 is $390 you would be giving to charity if you use Gift Certificates for your supermarket purchases.
  • How does the gift certificate program work?

    1. Participating supermarkets sell Gift Certificates to participating non-profits at a 5% discount. So, a $100 Gift Certificate costs the non-profit only $95.
    2. The non-profit sells the Gift Certificate to a participating individual for $100.
    3. The participating individual uses the Gift certificate to buy $100 worth of stuff at the participating supermarket.
    4. The participating non-profit gives the $5 to a local non-profit helping agency like a food pantry or a shelter.
    5. All participants benefit. The supermarket fulfills its community service desires. The non-profit fulfills its mission to help people in need. The individual gives more to charity than they might otherwise afford. Win, win, win.
