Global Decisions
The Foreign Policy Association produces a popular "Global Decisions" series each year. After watching a brief movie and reading notes, individuals are asked to comment on an issue of global significance. This year, the topics include global crime, conflict in the Persian Gulf, global financial issues, and five other topics. Our congregation will begin this year's "Global Decisions" series on Tuesday, January 26th. Individuals can attend either a 2:00 pm or a 7:00 pm meeting at our meetinghouse.
At these January 26 meetings, we will discuss how the series works and we will develop a winter and spring schedule. The series is free. All people are invited. We have discussed the possibility of showing the same movie during the day and, again, at night, in order to involve more people. Your comments and suggestions on how to develop this series will be appreciated. For additional information, please contact Rev. Bob Murphy. Telephone: (508) 563-5948.
UUA Response to Swine Flu concerns
The national Unitarian Universalist Association has sent the following announcement in response to public health concerns:
The H1N1 virus (commonly known as Swine Flu) is prompting a growing
number of public institutions to close or dramatically change their
daily routines. Church groups feel a special responsibility to protect
their members and to offer support during times of crisis, but this
mission is challenged during an epidemic when public gatherings pose a
potential health risk. In times like these, congregations must decide
how best to minimize the risk while continuing to provide pastoral care
and practical assistance to their members and communities.
The UUA has posted a number of public health resources for congregations
and their leaders:
UUA: Disasters
.
Resources include planning tools, information, and concrete suggestions
for dealing with a public health threat, including the current H1N1
virus. Also included are materials designed to inform and protect the
immigrant community, a group doubly at-risk because it has been unfairly
targeted as responsible for the crisis.

Petition for Principled Action on War in Iraq
Presented by the UU Fellowship of Falmouth
We the members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth are opposed to a preemptive invasion of Iraq that is not sanctioned by the United Nations.
As Unitarian Universalists, we affirm and actively encourage:
*Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations;
*Use of and defense of the democratic process;
*A world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
*Respect for the environment and for the indeterdependent web of all existence.
At this difficult moment in our nation's history, we call upon the President of the United States of America, members of the United States Congress, and other national leaders to:
*Recognize the inherent worth, dignity, and human rights
of all people.
*Support cooperative, diplomatic strategies for promoting good will among nations and for resolving international problems.
We are patriotic United States citizens who love our country and who are concerned about the world's future. Therefore, we, the members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth, hereby oppose a United States invasion of Iraq, but support instead a genuinely multilateral approach to the Iraq crisis, that is sanctioned and directed by the United Nations.
Respectfully recorded,
Dayle Carroll-Teal, Clerk
